Electric Heated Mattress Pad

An electric heated mattress pad is a brilliant bit of bedding to consider if you live in a cooler climate or are a bit cold blooded. They are also great for reducing aches and pains you may experience from health issues or a hard day's work.

Do you detest climbing into bed during the winter because the bed and sheets are so cold that they make you shiver? I did. There is a way to help make your bed more comfortably warm and cozy, so you won't shiver anymore; an electric heated mattress pad. It can warm your bed and your body so you can sleep better. There are other benefits to using a heated mattress pad as well.

Do you wake up with aches and pains every morning? Do you suffer from arthritis? If either of these questions describes your life, then you will be happy to know that an electric heated mattress pad can help to give you a wonderful night of pain-free sleep. The heat works to relax your muscles, helping decrease your aches and pain. The fact heat moves up means it gets into your body more efficiently than it does with an electric blanket. The electric heated mattress pad directs heat to where your body needs it, rather than rising into the air. You may find that this mattress pad is your solution to getting the good night's sleep that you want and deserve with no aches and pain.

An electric heated mattress pad is a great way to keep yourself warm during the winter. It allows you to decrease your room temperature at night, saving you money on your heating bill. The heated mattress pad keeps you warmer than an electric blanket, due to the fact the heat moves up into your body, rather than into the air, as with an electric blanket. If you are tired of being cold in bed and want to climb into a warm and cozy bed, then an electric heated mattress pad can be just the thing for you.

Electric heated mattress pads are available in sizes matching your mattress size. Most of them are fitted mattress pads, which is excellent because they tend to stay in place and not bunch up when they are fitted to your mattress size. They go between your mattress and sheets, so you can use your most comfy sheets on top of the pad to give you maximum comfort and relaxation. You can purchase them at most bedding stores, department stores, and even some chain stores.

Another option to consider, especially if you can't find an electric heated mattress pad, is to use an electric blanket, probably a size smaller than your mattress. There are electric blankets that have heating zones so you can get the heat where you need it most. If you go this route, place it under your regular mattress pad, and use it as you would an electric blanket you sleep under.

Whether you want an electric heated mattress pad for warmth, pain relief, or comfort, you will find it can help to make your sleep more restful and cozy. Compare prices so that you find the one that is right for your budget and for your life. In no time at all, you will be as snug as a bug in a rug.

Is it safe to leave the mattress pad on all night?

Jane at April 10, 2008 10:50 PM

Safety is a big personal issue. There are those who feel that the EMFs from electric blankets shouldn't be in a bedroom at all -- ever. But if you don't subscribe to EMF as a problem, then you don't care about the electric heated mattress pad being a problem.

Many electric blankets these days shut off after 10 hours. I'm betting the electric mattress pad does too. The issue of shutting off after a certain number of hours is to keep bedding and people from over heating.

As long as you don't have the heat so high that you over heat -- ruining your sleep -- you should be fine with leaving your electric heated mattress pad on all night.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE HEATED MATTRESS PAD TO HEAT UP. I JUST PURCHASED ONE .

I just bought one also - I have found that turning it on it's highest setting about an hour before I go to bed makes the bed warm and cozy and I turn it down to about the second lowest setting for sleeping - since my bed and blankets are already nice and toasty!

Did Kim ever get an answer for the "E" heating problem? I have the same problem, and it seems to be the mattress pad itself, NOT the controller.

Did you see the post above yours? Does that work for you? If not, please let me know how long you heat it, how long before it heats well (if at all), etc.

We used to have a Sunbeam non-EMF electric mattress pad, It made the bed so wonderfully warm when I'd go in and preheat the bed for an hour or so.

You can feel the heating wires in the pad, but it wasn't enough for me to be uncomfortable. But if you're a Princess and the Pea type, be aware.

However, one day when I was changing sheets, I realized the bottom sheet had wear marks over the wire loops of the mattress pad. I was having severe issues with restless legs, and I wore actual holes in both my favorite sheet sets! So we got rid of the electric mattress pad, and now I use a hot water bottle. (The dr. advised me to take iron, and it really improved my restless leg problems!)

Thanks Lori for such an informative post! I wonder if there's ever been a study done on those who suffer from RLS to discover how many are low on iron.

Is it okay to use the washer and dryer to launder these types of mattress pads?

Terri L at April 14, 2009 09:54 AM

Hi Terri, Sorry - but anything with electrical wires should never, ever be put in your washer or dryer.
