I bought a serta King Whittingham Mattress in May 2006. It is the worse Mattress I ever owned. The mattress is sagging so we called the store which we bought it from. They sent someone down to look at it. They decided to give a new box spring which is also sagging and it is a Perfect sleeper box. They came last year and we are still waiting on the claim check to get here so we could get a new box spring. They are going to do nothing about our mattress that is sagging. I will never buy a serta again I need help. I feel like I am sleeping in a hole!!

Posted by: Hendrickson at February 9, 2008 10:27 AMSorry to hear about your sleeping problems. I'm not clear on one point: did you buy a new box spring when you bought your mattress? What does your mattress warranty say about mattress sagging?
If you didn't buy a new one then possibly the mattress was damaged by the sag of the springs. In the meantime, before you can buy new springs, place a sheet of plywood between the mattress and springs. That won't fix the sagging mattress, but it will minimize the number of sagging parts to ruin your sleep.
It may just be time to buy yet another new mattress. I sure love my latex mattress....

Posted by: The Mattress Lady at February 9, 2008 12:33 PMWe purchased a Queen size Galloway Serta Mattress and box spring from the nearby Sam's Club on January 29, 2008. This would be our second Serta Mattress puchase. Had no complaints on the previous purchase. However, this time we just about had to put on a gas mask because of the horrible smell that came from the mattress as we opened the plastic wrapping. The smell was terrible. We called customer service at 1-888-557-3782 and Tisha suggested we return the mattress and box spring to the Sam's Club to exchange for another set. Did just that and after checking three (3) other mattresses we did find one that did not have such a strong, offensive smell. There is slit odor that still comes from the mattress. Is this normal? As of March 1, 2008 we have not received any reply or call in response to our messages sent to customer service on January 30 and February 26, 2008. Not a very good way to treat a customer. Sure would like to hear from someone. You have my email.
Sincerely,
WBorgmann A not too happy customer

Posted by: WBorgmann at March 1, 2008 01:46 PMI hope Serta will make this right for you. I increasingly hear people complain about the stench coming from their new mattresses. I'm guessing it's the chemicals that are used in the construction plus the fire resistant chemicals that are required by law.
It doesn't help that the mattress has been caged inside the plastic bags so it can't even offgas properly. And you can't very well leave the mattress on the patio or deck for as long as it takes to air the mattress out.
I sure love my latex mattress with wool topper. :~)

Posted by: The Mattress Lady at March 1, 2008 02:19 PMWe purchased a Serta Perfect Day King size mattress 6 months ago. While it is very comfortable, the body impressions are very noticeable, even with a comforter on the bed. It looks worse than our 15 year old mattress did. We filed a warranty claim, showing 1 1/2" depressions, but they disagreed saying the impressions were only 1". Can't even sleep in the middle because we keep "rolling back down the hill." Very disappointed in their customer service and will never buy another Serta or any mattress with "memory" foam.

Posted by: Kwessel at March 20, 2008 02:34 PMI'm curious: did you also buy new springs when you bought your new mattress?
The Mattress Lady at March 20, 2008 02:44 PM
Posted by: The Mattress Lady at March 20, 2008 02:44 PMWe are on our 2nd Serta mattress since the end of January, 2008. We purchased the mattress and box springs (on sale but not sold as "seconds")after being sold on the coil springs, etc. The owner of the store where we purchased them came to the house to inspect the "cupcake" droop on one side of the mattress. You can't sit on the side of the mattress but have to scoot back; otherwise, you slide forward and off due to the downward slope. This second mattress has the same problem. This time the owner responded to my complaint saying I should have purchased a more expensive mattress and that they're for sleeping upon, not sitting! He invited us back to purchase a more expensive Serta. NO WAY! Why invest more $ in a product that is so poorly manufactured that the retailer won't even stand up for it! (It's a full size Lander, firm, and neither my husband or I weigh more than 165#s.)

Posted by: K. Jurgens at March 25, 2008 12:42 PMI had hopes for a few moments the owner of the store would have more customer service awareness than he turned out to have. It seems to me that if the store is selling products that aren't meant to last or be used normally (and I think sitting on the edge of the bed is part of the normal wear-and-tear) they should advise you of that and urge you toward a product that can be used as you are doing.
When are mattress stores going to realize their continued existence depends on both quality products and customer service?
Contact Serta directly to see what they can do for you.

Posted by: The Mattress Lady at March 25, 2008 01:28 PMI bought a Serta Galloway Queen from Sam's Club last night, and it was the best sleep I have had in a while! My wife doesn't like the fact that it is so firm, but I told her that it was better for her back and mine. I think I am going to buy her a memory foam topper. What do you think?

I'm more biased toward latex, down/feather, and wool mattress toppers because they are made of renewable resources and don't offgas. Your sleep is better and healthier when the air is clean.
Another reason I'd consider the latex, down/feather, and wool mattress toppers is because memory foam tends to be firm, so if you are looking to cushion the firm mattress you have, something with more cushion and give would be valuable. These products breathe well too, making them good year-round.
