will a California king mattress fit on an adjustable queen/king bed frame?

It depends on the frame. If it's designed to hold a head- and foot-board, the foot-board supports (where you attach the foot-board) will interfere with the California King springs and mattress. If the foot-board end of the frame is "open", a California king bed should fit.

Be sure to buy a frame that has sufficient center support too.

I have a cal-king mattress which is fairly new only 6 months old. I want to purchase a wooden bed with headboard/footboard and wood rails. Will my cal-king mattress fit onto a king size bed or does the bed need to be specific for cal-king size mattress? Right now I have the mattress on just a metal frame with only a headboard attached. I want to upgrade and purchase an entire bed.

If you are "hemming" the bed in with a footboard, yes you need to have the frame be made for a California King mattress. Remember cal-king mattresses are longer, and a touch narrower than a conventional king-size mattress; the frame needs to take that into account.

I want to combine two twin-xl mattresses & bedframes to look like one king bed. I need a king headboard. Can I do this? What size/kind of headboard should I look for? Do regular king-size headboards fit this arrangement? Help

Combining two twin beds can be a great way to create your king-size bed. You get the size you want, yet each side is independent.

The standard king-size headboard should fit that arrangement. Any king-size headboard that attaches to the type of frame you have should work.

The exception I can see that would keep the mattresses from fitting together nicely would be if you don't have a studio bed frame but instead a regular "decorator" bed frame with thicker side pieces. I have seen people turn the twin mattresses perpendicular to the box springs to create their king-size bed in that situation. But in your case of having a longer mattress, you'd have a little bit of mattress extending beyond the headboard, something that I don't think would be an issue.

You can use a regular king-size headboard with a California king bed, as long as it doesn't have a closed frame or footboard. A California king bed is longer and only a touch narrower than a standard king-size bed. In my experience, your bedding will fill in the difference and most people won't even notice the difference in width. And those who do, won't care.

Just want to get clarification: I have a Cal King mattress. The headboard I want to purchase only comes as a regular King. How do I make this work? I understand I need an open bed frame but do I need a regular King size bed frame? Because the Cal King mattress is 4 in. shorter in width will the regular King bed frame hold it properly or is it too wide? Sorry for rambling but I must know exactly before I buy anything else. Thank you:-)

I answered above that you can use a standard king frame with a California king-size bed. Let me qualify that: if the frame is an adjustable metal frame you can use the frame for either style of mattress. If it's not adjustable, then it won't readily work.

The headboard usually attaches to the metal frame, so that could take some modifications and creativity to make it fit the adjusted frame, but it hopefully won't be a big problem.
